13:1 415ci nitrous C5 build

Well I've been working on this a while and I thought id post up my build on the forum. Ive been working on and off of it for a while and recently my friends have been really motivating me to get back after it and complete my project, hence all the corvette videos Ive been posting. So here is what ive been up to.

My car has been down for about 2 years and 3 months now. I spun a rod bearing on the highway bringing it back from a trip in August 2007. I daily drove this car at the time.

Here it was, Previously the car had a 383ci based LS1 with all the bolt-ons and was jetted for a 200 shot...the only video i have of it is an idle video, Alan has some video of it and Kris had video of it going 13.1@121 on motor spinning down the track

IDLE VIDEO - http://videos.streetfire.net/video/U...dle_207238.htm

I went back to college for my last year and forgot about the car. I came back in June 2008 and started tearing it down.

It was ready for something new...

I knew I wanted a large cube stroker motor just for the N/A power and for the fact of being able to say i have a 400+ci motor in my car. So after a little research I decided i would do an Iron Block 408 (4.030 bore-4.00 stroke)..which would make an almost bullet proof foundation for a high compression nitrous motor...so i picked up my block and pistons
LQ4 Iron Block bored 4.032 (which would come back to bite my ass)
Wiseco -8cc dished nitrous pistons

I was using my old 4.00" Eagle Crank and 6.125 rods. So i had the crank turned and the rods checked out.

Of course the rods had ARP rod bolts installed

I then contacted STK to assemble my short block...they are a local shop that specializes in 700+ci Big Block motors. My engine builder Big Bobby was extremely nice and helpful and great to do business with. He let me know that the size of the bore on my block would not seal the ring properly and if I stayed with a 4.030 piston my motor would eat oil. He motivated me to push the envelope a little. And that's what we did

We went bigger. After sonic testing the block for thickness I had him bore it to 4.065. I sold my Wiseco pistons and got a set of Custom Diamond pistons with Trend Wrist pins

Since I planned on making this motor a nitrous motor I had to get good piston rings so i picked up some Total Seal AP rings (good for up to a 400 shot)

One of my favorite things about push rod motors is the sound they make with a nice cam. I wanted this vette to sound like a fucking beast but not sacrifice performance for sound. I went with a Comp Cam XER 244/248 .612 .615 112+2. This cam should be good for N/A work with my max shot of 275 and sound good at idle.

For reference here is this same cam in a 11:1 compression 408ci

I ordered all ARP hardware to be installed during the assembly of the shortblock, from main studs to head studs as well as getting a Comp adjustable Timing Sprocket and LS2 timing chain. With my ported LS6 oil pump that pretty muched finished up the short block

My goal is to make post 550+hp and 520+torque on motor 800+hp on a 200 wet shot.
A guy with a pretty similar setup but with less compression, heads that probably flowed a little less than mine, my cam on a 114+2 lsa and no EWP made 557hp and 525torque
I have a lot left to post to get you guys up to speed on how the motor currently sits

It's crazy how solid the GM small blocks look compared to a thin cylinder'd Honda. I can't wait to see what you do with this thing. I rode in my cousin's 02 SS with bolt ons and a nice cam that made 460WHP 450TQ on motor and can definitely say it was the fastest thing I've rode in from a dig.
